Secondary (Years 9-13, approx age 13-17)

Situated close to ski-fields, tourist attractions and Christchurch International Airport, Timaru Boys’ high school offer academic excellence with a strong sporting and cultural focus for years 9 to 13. Learning in a gender specific environment has proved to be more productive catering for students individual needs. Varied and flexible courses offer a wide variety of subjects with individual programmes developed for each student including ESOL. We offer individual attention to students with homestay options and a strong support system. A combined girls and boys extra-curricular programme gives international students the opportunity to mix and see local attractions and activities. Students can now also opt to gain a pilot’s licence with our new aviation programme.

The school was established in 1880 and have a long proud history with traditional values.
We have a high profile international department with first class support.  We have modern well equipped classrooms including our newly established Gym and sports complex.  For the Music and performing arts section we have a newly developed theatre. We have the John Scott Lodge which is our outdoor education faciliy.  The lodge is  well situated in a very unique part of New Zealand. 
Our varied sporting achievements are equal with the best in New Zealand. 

Canterbury stretches from ocean to the Alps, and is a land of plains and peaks. It is a place of variety and innumerable attractions.

Within two hours of an international airport, you can ski, play golf, bungy jump, go whitewater rafting, mountain biking, wind surfing, whale watching, and visit world-class vineyards and gardens. Where else in the world can you do that?

A must-see is New Zealand’s highest peak, Aoraki Mount Cook. Go hiking in Arthur’s Pass National Park or just wander around the picturesque bays and villages of Banks Peninsula. And then there’s New Zealand's second-largest city, Christchurch known as 'The Garden City'.

Christchurch is a beautiful city where you can cycle alongside the river, stay in good hotels and indulge in fine sophisticated dining, and a city where, just 15 minutes from the centre, you can scramble up mountain bike tracks or ride a wave at a surf beach.
