Founded in 1914, St Matthew's is an integrated boarding and day school for girls from Year 7 to Year 13. We are located in the rural town of Masterton, 90 minutes north of the capital city of Wellington, in the North Island of New Zealand. At St Matthew's we focus on the needs of the individual, encouraging each girl to reach her potential in all aspects of school life. As a school of Anglican special character, Christian values form the foundations of our expectations of academic, cultural and sporting excellence. In Years 12 and 13, St Matthew's girls join with Rathkeale College male students to form the Senior College. We educate our students to be effective citizens who are independent, resilient, 21st century learners.
St Matthew’s Collegiate School is a small school where every girl is important. Our roll of around 300 makes it easy for our teachers, matrons and support staff get to know all students well and take a personal interest in their learning and general wellbeing. We offer a safe environment where young women can study in small classes and be assisted to develop their sporting skills and cultural talents.
Each term there are two or three exeat weekends, where all students leave the boarding houses. International students go to carefully selected host families or take advantage of invitations from their school friends for a taste of real New Zealand life. Students who do not return to their homeland for school holidays are placed with homestay families or may choose to go to an English language school for a short course. Older students may like to go on one of the trips around New Zealand organized for overseas students by reputable companies.
