Waitakere College is the proud co-winner of the 2017 Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and also a finalist for Excellence in Leadership.
Our International Students are offered extensive ESOL support based on their English level as well as Academic Mentoring and support. Our free homework club meets three times a week with subject teachers available for extra support on two of the three days and student support on the third. Our English conversation group 'Korero' provides a fun way for International Students to improve their conversational English. Caring Kiwi Buddies enjoy the opportunity to befriend our International Students and help them integrate into life at the College and in New Zealand.
There are numerous sporting codes, cultural groups and music opportunities for students to get involved with at Waitakere College, something for everyone to enjoy!
The College is a five minute walk to the train station providing easy access to the city for weekend activities. Being in the West of Auckland means students are only a fifteen minute drive to the Waitakere rainforest as well as some of New Zealand's most iconic surf beaches. Within a short walking distance of the College, students can access an Olympic sized swimming pool at the West Wave Aquatic Centre as well as a large shopping mall and well equipped and modern public library.
Waitakere College arranges their own high quality, caring homestay families who have a genuine interest in young people and want them to make the most of their time in New Zealand. Our homestays are supportive and aware of the needs of International Students studying away from their families.

What Students Say:
"Hi, my name is Andy. I have been in New Zealand for four years and I've had a great time here.
When I arrived I was a stranger and I tried to fit in by making new friends. I used my free time to hang out with friends and my English improved very fast because I spent most of my time with Kiwi friends.
I loved playing soccer with my homestay brother, we both joined a club and won the championship. I gave that up when I became a senior so I could concentrate on my study.
I love the teachers at Waitakere College because they are really patient and willing to help you if you have any problems. I learned many skills especially self study which helped me to concentrate while I was away from my parents.
I like the healthy lifestyle in New Zealand, it makes me feel positive. In the morning when I walk to school I see people running, there are also many outside activities at school which balances the classroom learning.
I have a clear goal of going to University when I finish at Waitakere College and the Careers advisors have helped me to know exactly what I need to do to acheive my goal.
So far my time at Waitakere College and in New Zealand has been wonderful. I'm looking forward to my future in this country."
