Mercedes Santos, from Argentina, gained a Masters of Engineering Management (Hons) at the University of Auckland.
She now manages a section of the Waikato Expressway, one of the country’s biggest roading projects, for the New Zealand Transport Agency, and won the prestigious Project Manager of the Year title in 2014.
“Degrees in New Zealand are shorter than in Argentina because they have less theory; studying here is more about practical experience than memorising facts from a book. Everything you learn at university in New Zealand is knowledge you’ll use when you’re at work,” says Mercedes.
I’d recommend New Zealand to other international students, regardless of where they’re from. It is a friendly and safe country with many opportunities
