Course details

Summary

Start building a brilliant career as a manager in the hospitality industry by taking this course. It’s ideal if you have completed one of our Level 5 courses - The Maitre D' or The Supervisor course - or if you already have front-line hospitality service experience.

In the first part of the course, you’ll learn about hotel operations, staff management and the tools of the trade. You'll also get up to speed on how to set up and manage large scale events. In the second part of the course, you can choose between a 20 week full-time internship in the industry or 20 weeks of campus-based learning to further develop your management knowledge before you begin your career in a hotel.

A TASTE OF WHAT YOU'LL EXPERIENCE

PART ONE
Hotel operations

You’ll learn all about the operational activities and how they affect management decisions within the room division operations of a hotel. These include the Front Desk, Guest Services and Housekeeping departments.

Human resources

We’ll teach you about the role and responsibilities of human resources (HR) staff in terms of other employees - and how you’ll need to work with this team in your role as a manager.

Tools of the trade

Develop an understanding of the key tools you’ll use in your job and the different aspects of financial management that are used to run hospitality operations.

Planning for events

How to prepare for large-scale contemporary functions, covering the food and beverage service, staff and event logistics.

PART TWO
On campus option

Learn about resource management and procurement, as well as the way the external business environment can affect a hospitality business. You then get to put your knowledge to the test by planning how you’d develop operations for a specific hospitality business case.

Internship option

If you meet certain requirements, you can spend the second half of the course in a full-time internship. This will give you invaluable experience as a trainee manager in the hospitality industry. You’ll put together a portfolio of work based on the experience and what you learn from your internship.
