Summary

Get focused professional development as a teacher and develop your expertise in teaching English to speakers of other languages.

Study postgraduate TESOL (Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages) and advance your teaching skills and English language teaching practice.

You’ll strengthen your knowledge and understanding of how others learn languages, analyse common language teaching and learning problems, and reflect on your teaching practice. You’ll make links between theories and your own teaching practice and teaching context.

The University’s TESOL programme is highly regarded worldwide. It has a strong international orientation reflecting New Zealand's unique position in the Asia-Pacific region. Get a postgraduate certification and learn from internationally recognised experts with significant teaching and research expertise.

Previous teaching experience is a requirement for both the postgraduate certificate and diploma in TESOL. If you don’t have any teaching experience, take a look at the Graduate Certificate in TESOL.

Open pathways: Enrol in the PGCertTESOL or PGDipTESOL if you’re not quite ready to commit to a Master of Arts in TESOL. Once you’re confident this is the pathway for you, you can easily move into the Master’s programme.

You could also enrol in the PGCertTESOL and move onto the PGDipTESOL.
