Summary

Build on your undergraduate degree and professional experience with advanced study and become a leader in your field of linguistics or language learning and teaching.

You'll complete a mix of coursework and research working with some of New Zealand’s leading academic staff. Study alongside students from around the world and emerge as an expert in your subject.

Flexible options: Take advantage of flexible study options to tailor your studies to your needs. You can choose from a range of courses, Applied Linguistics students can study either on campus or by distance. You can complete your Master's in one year of full-time study or over two or three years part time. And for most programmes, you're also able to start studying at the beginning of any of the three trimesters during the year.

Distance learning support: If you're learning off campus, web-based resources will help ensure you have a rich learning experience and that you can be in regular contact with your lecturers.

Applied Linguistics: The Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics will give you the skills to advise and inform others on language-related issues and develop your ability to read, critique and carry out your own research in a range of contexts, including language education.

Bachelor's degree with a B range average in a relevant subject

IELTS: minimum overall score of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0; TOEFL: minimum score of 90 for the internet-based test with a minimum of 20 in writing; Pearson Test of English: minimum score of 58 (with a ‘Communicative’ score of not less than 50); EPP: minimum final scores of 4,4,5,5
