This Level 9 master’s qualification is endorsed in ECE. It will appeal to people wanting to further their knowledge of early childhood generally and in specialist areas such as leadership, biculturalism, inclusive education, curriculum, evaluation and infant and toddler pedagogy.

Pathways

Pathway 1: Master's by thesis or primarily by thesis

1 year full-time or 2 -3 years part-time.

A 120 credit programme for students holding a postgraduate diploma or bachelors degree (with honours), consisting of a 30-credit Research Methods course and a 90-credit Research Thesis.

Pathway 2: Master's by coursework and thesis

18 months full-time or 3 years part-time.

A 180 credit course for students entering with a Level 7 qualification (in the field of education). Students will complete their coursework (either full-time or part-time), including the compulsory Research Methods course, before undertaking the Research Thesis.

Pathway 3: Master's by coursework only

18 months full-time or 3 years part-time

A 120 – 180 credit programme (depending on entry qualifications). Students must hold a minimum Level 7 qualification (in the field of education). Students completing their master's degree by coursework (full-time or part-time) will choose from a suite of Level 8 and 9 courses. Full time students will study two courses per semester.

Some of our programmes are fully online, which means that you can study from home with no commitment to attending face-to-face block courses. Your study will be self-directed, but you will engage with lecturers and other students through your online study portal.

Entry criteria

Master's by thesis or primarily by thesis: Students must hold a postgraduate diploma or a bachelor’s honours degree. Students must be able to provide a copy of their academic transcript.

Master's by coursework and thesis: Students must hold a relevant, NZQA-equivalent Level 7 degree/diploma in education or a related field.
