Summary

Looking to pursue tertiary studies in New Zealand but don’t quite have the level of English you need? You’ve come to the right place! The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) is an NZQA accredited qualification, and your gateway to further study in New Zealand universities and tertiary providers. This qualification is accepted throughout New Zealand universities and tertiary providers. It also creates work and lifestyle opportunities for you in New Zealand, and other English speaking environments around the world.

Overview

This programme has a strong academic focus and will open the door to exciting work and study opportunities in New Zealand and other English speaking countries. Build your fluency and confidence in academic settings and develop your understanding of oral and written academic texts. You’ll also learn to write academic records and reports and boost your communication and interpersonal skills.

Content

New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) is intended for learners of English as an additional language, who wish to pursue further English language study in an academic context.

To complete this programme candidates will need 60 credits (15 credits per paper) which include Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. The four papers will be delivered in an integrated and scaffolded manner across the 18 weeks of delivery. Skills development will be framed against topics with specific functional, grammatical and lexical inventory targeted on a weekly basis. The functional inventory (content) represents the skills students will develop over the course of the programme of study.

Outcomes

Graduates will have the language skills required to communicate independently and effectively in familiar and some less familiar situations with fluency and flexibility in academic settings. This qualification allows educational institutions to make informed judgements regarding the level at which the graduate can use English for academic purposes.
