New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) (Level 4) is intended for learners of English who wish to pursue further academic study. Graduates will have the English language skills to understand context specific texts of an academic nature, write records and reports, communicate and interact confidently in English.

New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) is intended for learners of English as an additional language, who wish to pursue further English language study in an academic context. Graduates will have the language skills required to communicate independently and effectively in familiar and some less familiar situations with fluency and flexibility in academic settings. This qualification allows educational institutions to make informed judgements regarding the level at which the graduate can use English for academic purposes.
To complete this programme candidates will need 60 credits (15 credits per paper) which include Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. The four papers will be delivered in an integrated and scaffolded manner across the 18 weeks of delivery. Skills development will be framed against topics with specific functional, grammatical and lexical inventory targeted on a weekly basis. The functional inventory (content) represents the skills students will develop over the course of the programme of study.
