Summary

Students this programme will learn the introductory skills of the landscape construction trade, gaining confidence in using building tools, and how to build and make landscape elements. Students will also learn about planting, laying lawns and some maintenance.

The programme is very practical - students will get to work on real landscape projects in the community, providing them with experience in setting out, woodworking, laying concrete, and paving with drainage. They will also learn essential health and safety skills required by industry; and how to read and draw construction plans, measure, and survey.

Career/further opportunities

Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to work as a landscape labourer.

This qualification can lead to further study in the relevant strand of the New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture Services (Level 4) and eventually lead to the following:

  • Diploma in Landscape (Design or Construction) (Level 5)
  • Diploma in Landscape (Level 6)

Entry criteria

This programme is open to anyone who wants to study. You don’t need any previous study or work experience to apply.

English Language Requirements:

Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score in the academic band of 5.5 in the academic band, with no individual band score lower than 5.0 or equivalent.
