The New Zealand Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management Level 6 builds on the practical hospitality skills learnt at Level 4 and 5 and provides professional hospitality management knowledge and business management skills to enable graduates to work in management roles across a range of hospitality, hotel and tourism businesses.
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
Hospitality Management leadership
This Diploma in Hospitality Management module looks at strategies to ensure excellence in customer service standards along with how to develop training plans for junior hospitality staff. Leadership management skills and mentoring tools form an important aspect of this course.
People & Culture (Advanced)
This module explores communication strategies to facilitate hospitality and tourism staff relationships and enhance workplace culture. It introduces helpful applications to understand how teams work and flourish in a supportive hospitality management workplace.
Diploma in Hospitality Management Accounting
Understanding and interpreting how a business is doing from aspects of financial performance and profitability is key to hospitality business success. This module consists of a number of hands on workshops to explain and practice hospitality management accounting, interpretation of financial ratios, hospitality and tourism product pricing, yield and productivity analysis and practical experience working on Xero.
Innovation in Hospitality Management Diploma
This module looks at how to predict and anticipate changes in the hospitality and tourism business environment, in order to maintain or improve hospitality business performance.
Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Marketing
In this module, we will look at hospitality marketing, design and investment in new products and review existing products to ensure long term business profitability. You will get the opportunity to plan and develop a sales and marketing plan.
Assessments
Written and practical assessments will take place through out the Diploma of Hospitality and Tourism Management enabling you to build and improve your skills.
WORK EXPERIENCE
While studying the Diploma of Hospitality Management qualification, you will have work placements to give you invaluable hands-on experience in some of Auckland’s premier cafe’s, restaurants and hotels. Many students are offered full-time work at these businesses following their work experience module.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates of the Diploma of Hospitality and Tourism Management Level 6 will be able to work in a variety of roles in cafés, restaurants, catering, bars, clubs, luxury resorts, tourism venues, superyachts and hotels. Due to the highly practical nature of this course, NZSFW graduates are very attractive to prospective employers.
GRADUATE PLACEMENT SERVICE
Graduates of the Diploma of Hospitality and Tourism Management Level 6 have access to the NZSFW Placement Service when it is time to seek employment. This service is also available for industry placements during your studies.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT WORK RIGHTS
This course allows International students to work 20 hours per week.
PATHWAYS TO FURTHER STUDY
The Diploma of Hospitality and Tourism Management Level 6 builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality Management (Level 5) and may lead on to further study towards a Bachelor in Hospitality Management or Masters in Gastronomy degree.
