This programme is designed for those wanting to further their professional hairdressing skills and knowledge. Students will learn a range of cutting styles, permanent colouring techniques, reformation services, and advanced styling. This programme focuses on a practical understanding of the daily business needs and practices of a salon, working with real clients to provide consultations and a quality salon experience.

Study also includes 160 hours of work-based learning.

On completion of this programme, students will need to work in a salon to complete their final credits before they can be registered as a fully qualified hairdresser.

Embedded within our hairdressing programmes are internationally recognised City & Guilds qualifications.​

Career/Further Opportunities

Graduates will be equipped to work as an Emerging Stylist in a hairdressing salon.

Graduates of this programme may progress into the New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Professional Stylist)

Entry criteria

Applicants are required to have completed:

(a) New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) (Level 3);or
(b) Comparable Level 3 qualification in hairdressing.

English Language Requirements

Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 5.5 in the academic band, with no individual band score lower than 5.0; or

  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score of 46 (with a writing score of 14)
  • TOEFL Paper-based Test (pBT) score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
