Summary

Students in this programme will learn intermediate computing skills to prepare for work or further study. Students will learn skills in project management, web development, branding and design, as well as professional ethical practice, security risks, and common hardware and software problems.

Tutors will support students at every step on their journey and extensive online support is provided. All classes take place in computer labs.

Students can enrol full time or there is an online option. With this national qualification, students can improve their job prospects or go onto further study.

What You'll Learn

Students' learning experience takes place within a simulated work project so computing skills can be gained in a real life context. As part of a technology design team students will learn skills in project management, web development, branding and design. The course also introduces professional ethical practice, security risks and how to fix common hardware and software problems.

This qualification provides a pathway into a range of qualifications. Graduates may progress to further study in a variety of areas at Level 4 or above, such as:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology (BI1606)
  • New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology Technical Support (BI1607)
  • Bachelor of Applied Information Technology (BI1601)

This qualification can complement other qualifications related to specific industries. Graduates may also be equipped to attempt optional industry certifications at the appropriate level.

This programme is open to anyone who wants to study. You don't need any previous study or work experience to apply.

English Language Requirements

Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) academic score of 5.5, with no individual band score lower than 5.0; or equivalent.
