Summary

The programme is suitable for students pursuing a career in the global Travel and Tourism sector. You will be able to design and effectively implement processes to enhance visitor experience. Competencies acquired will help you to take full responsibility for the quantity, nature and quality of services provided. You can seek job opportunities at entry level in the industry.

Graduate Outcome:

On successful completion of this programme, you will be able to:

  • Effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with a diverse audience and proactively support visitor experience
  • Manage self, time and tasks in the workplace and comply with relevant Acts and legislation
  • Analyse and evaluate the operating environments of local, national and international tourism and make decisions
  • Develop, analyse and critique the business systems and processes for quality visitor experience and overall business effectiveness

Structure:

The programme runs over 36 weeks in 2 semesters of 18 weeks each. You must achieve 120 credits from 8 modules. You must successfully complete all 8 modules to graduate.

Module 2: Fundamental Workplace Management

Module 3: Auckland’s Tourism Industry

Module 4: Tourism in New Zealand

Module 5: International Tourism Environments

Module 6: Developing Successful Business Systems

Module 7: Sustainable Tourism and Local Communities

Module 8: Developing an Industry Enterprise

Education pathway: This qualification leads to the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 6).

Employment pathway: Work in the tourism and travel industry at entry level .

Entry criteria

Must be 18 years of age and above

International students must have an appropriate level of English proficiency as specified by NZQA for the level at which they intend to study i.e. IELTS Academic score of 5.5, with no band score lower than 5.0; or the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) (Level 4) or equivalent approved by NZQA.

Students need to meet the entry criteria based on student visa approval rates for their respective countries.
