The Master of Health Practice is ideal for health professionals who want to extend their practical knowledge and are ready for the next step in their career. You can select papers and areas of practice that reflect your career needs and interests.

The Master of Health Practice in Paramedicine is ideal for health professionals who are ready for the next step in their career. This postgraduate course focuses on the future of paramedic practice worldwide.

AUT’s postgraduate paramedicine papers focus on international best practice in the out of hospital setting. Papers may be delivered in a range of formats including on-campus block courses or online. Individual papers may not be offered every year.

The Master of Health Practice is designed for health professionals with at least three years of clinical experience. You can select papers that reflect your career needs and interests.

Staircasing options from the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science or Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science are also available.

What you study:

You need a total of 180 points to complete the Master of Health Practice in Paramedicine qualification.

  • PARA808 Community and Remote Paramedicine (30 points)

And select 60 points from

  • HEAL814 Practice Pursued (30 points)
  • PARA801 Aviation Physiology (30 points)
  • PARA802 Resuscitation Physiology (30 points)
  • PARA803 Aeromedical Retrieval (30 points)
  • PARA804 Extreme Situations Management (30 points)
  • PARA805 Contemporary Intensive Paramedicine (30 points)
  • PARA806 Advanced Resuscitation (30 points)
  • PARA809 Paramedic Practice for Registered Health Professionals (30 points)

And select 15 points from

  • HEAL811 Integrative Research (15 points)
  • HEAL840 Critical Inquiry for Evidence Based Practice (15 points)

And select 15 points from

  • HEAL812 Health Professional Practice (15 points)
  • HEAL813 Practice Reality (15 points)

And 60 points from

  • HEAL997 Practice Project (60 points)*

Or 60 points from

  • HEAL986 Research in Practice (45 points)*

And 15 points from a relevant postgraduate paper (with approval)

* Level 9 papers. Regulations require 40 points at level 9.

Entry criteria

Must have completed the following or equivalent:

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree
  • Relevant graduate diploma
  • Relevant professional qualification

AND

  • At least three years of relevant professional experience

Other requirements

  • May be required to complete prerequisite papers in chosen subject area
  • May be asked to provide evidence of current professional practice
  • May be required to meet Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act) and Vulnerable Children’s Act (VCA Act) requirements and other relevant legislation

English Language Requirements:

IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher; or equivalent; TOEFL iBT score of 90; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with A grade; GIE with B+ grade; CAE minimum overall score of 176; PTE minimum overall score of 58.
