Course details

Summary

Prepare for higher-level study in medical imaging, sport science or applied science.

This programme is a pathway for the Bachelor of Medical Imaging, the Bachelor of Applied Science (Sports Science) and the New Zealand Diploma in Applied Science (Level 5).

It covers a variety of subjects including human and microbial biology, cell biology, chemistry and maths. You’ll also gain skills for academic study - such as how to write academic texts - and you'll develop the intra- and inter-personal skills needed to support success in tertiary study.

This certificate can be studied full-time or part-time over two years.

Please note: to ensure you have the best chance of success in our maths courses, we require that you demonstrate a minimum level of maths knowledge before enrolling. This can be done using previous academic records (e.g. NCEA results) or through our entry testing process.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This programme is designed as a stepping to stone to higher-level study, which in turn can lead to a rewarding career.

STUDY PATHWAYS

Upon completion of this programme you’ll have the academic entry requirements needed to apply for the Bachelor of Medical Imaging, the Bachelor of Applied Science (Sports Science) and the New Zealand Diploma in Applied Science (Level 5). Please note: completion doesn’t guarantee entry into these programmes as other criteria apply.

Entry criteria

40 credits NCEA Level 2, including 10 Level 1 Literacy credits and 10 Level 1 Mathematic credits (with a strength in Algebra for the Engineering Pathway and Numeracy for other pathways)
