This qualification is intended for people who want to work as a Support Worker in the health or wellbeing setting. It will allow you to gain knowledge and skills in New Zealand or in your home country.

The aim of this provider led programme is to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to work alongside people, family and/or whanau accessing social and community services. The aim of the support they provide will be based on a restorative care model and to maximize their autonomy and independence.

Once you have completed this qualification, may proceed to further studies related to health and wellbeing such as:

  • the New Zealand Certificate in Public Health and Health Promotion (Level 5)
  • the New Zealand Diploma in Addiction Studies (Applied) (Level 6)
  • bachelor’s degrees in related health and wellbeing subject areas.

Students may also choose to proceed to further studies related to leadership and management such as:

  • the New Zealand Certificate in Business (First Line Management) (Level 4)
  • the New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5) and
  • the New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 6) or
  • bachelor’s degrees in related leadership and management subject areas

Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to be employed in a range of roles working alongside people, family and whanau across health and wellbeing sectors

Graduates of the Community Facilitation strand will be employed in roles supporting people to identify and achieve their aspirations including disability support, diversional therapy, employment, housing and budget support and information provision.


For you to achieve your qualification, Polyethnic designed a programme. Your programme is broken down into seven modules. Each module will have a combination of class-room based learning, programme-directed learning and work placement followed by an assessment

  • Cultural diversity
  • Collaborate with others
  • Model of care
  • Reflective practice
  • Support a person to identify goals, address barriers and achieve aspirations

Entry criteria

Entry is open to all the learners who is over 18 years.

  • Have a valid student visa
  • Hold a qualification in Healthcare or equivalent; or have a keen interest in Healthcare and successfully attend an interview
  • Must have a satisfactory report from Police Vetting System of their country of origin and from New Zealand Police Vetting System as well if in NZ
  • Have NZCEL Level 3 General, Workplace or Academic; or IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5
