Summary

The CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is a highly-regarded internationally recognised qualification awarded by Cambridge English. It is for native or near native (equivalent to IELTS 7.5 or above) English speakers who have little or no previous English language teaching experience. It is also ideal for more experienced teachers without an equivalent qualification. What you will learn: About learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context; Language analysis and awareness; Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing; Planning for the effective teaching of adult learners of English; Planning and resources for different contexts; Developing teaching skills and professionalism. Candidates will participate in input sessions, plan lessons, research and complete four written assignments, undertake teaching practice on classes of adult students, receive feedback about teaching practice and observe experienced teachers. CELTA is a very intensive course and the focus is on acquiring practical skills in a supportive environment. After completing the course you will be able to: plan effectively and analyse target language and select appropriate resources and tasks for successful language and language skills development; deliver effective language and skills lessons, using a variety of classroom teaching techniques; show awareness of learners and respond so that learners benefit from the lessons; reflect on key strengths and weaknesses and use these reflections to develop your teaching skills.
