Course details

In this hands-on programme you'll gain the skills required to work in the hairdressing industry.

If you are creative and love to help people look and feel better, Hairdressing could be the career for you.

Take opportunities on this programme to gain practical work experience at local salons, and in our on-site training salons in Nelson and Marlborough.

This programme reflects the latest developments in the hairdressing industry. You can take advantage of opportunities and local and national events to see the breadth of work available to skilled stylists.

The tutors on this programme are passionate about hairdressing and about their students enjoying the beginning of their careers in this dynamic industry.

Successful graduates of the programme will be ready to progress to the New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Emerging Stylist) or enter the industry as a junior apprentice having completed a proportion of the unit standards required to gain the National Certificate in Hairdressing Practice (Level 4).

NMIT is also involved in apprenticeship training.

The programme includes either one late night or a Saturday a week so that you are used to industry hours and includes 50 hours work experience.

During your interview as part of the application process, you will get more detail about the timetable for the intake you are looking to study on and you will receive a full timetable before you begin your studies.
