Summary

The New Zealand Diploma in Business Level 5 Accounting strand allows you to launch your career in accounting with the operational skills to manage a business’s daily functions. The completion of the New Zealand Diploma in Business Level 5 in Accounting meets the competency requirements for the designation of Accounting Technician with CA ANZ.

You will learn the fundamentals of accounting covering, financial statements, taxation, business law, Treaty of Waitangi and more. In addition the applied teaching method will provide a safe environment to develop essential employable skills including effective communication, collaboration and team work across mediums, problem solving and decision making. This programme has been developed in collaboration with industry to ensure graduates have employable skills for the New Zealand business environment.

Aims of Programme

This Programme aims to prepare students with a general and specialised business and accounting knowledge and skills that can be applied in a range of operational roles.

Graduates will be prepared to contribute to the achievement of business operational objectives, through the application of knowledge and skills, in an ethical manner and in a bi- and multi-cultural environment. In addition, graduates will have specialised knowledge and skills for application in operational roles in New Zealand business entities.

The New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5) Accounting Strand satisfies the academic requirements by CA ANZ for the Accounting Technician designation.

Entry criteria

Applicants under 20 years old

Students must have New Zealand NCEA Level 1 or 2. Entry requirements vary from country to country.

or equivalent to the above.

Applicants 20 years or over

For applicants 20 years or over, there are no minimum academic requirements. However, applicants will need to provide their curriculum vitae detailing any relevant work experience and academic achievements. The Head of Department Applied Business (or delegate) will use this information to assess whether the applicant is likely to successfully complete the NZ Diploma in Business Programme.

English language requirements:

  • IELTS: Academic score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5
  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18)
  • Cambridge English Examinations - B2 First, or B2 First for schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42

Special Entry

In exceptional circumstances, an applicant under the age of 20 years who does not meet the academic entry requirements may be granted entry to the NZ Diploma in Business where they supply evidence to satisfy the relevant Academic Committee of their ability to succeed on the NZ Diploma in Business programme.
