The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) consists of an individual course of supervised research that involves a substantial commitment from the candidate, supervisor(s), and the University that extends over some years.

PhD thesis are evaluated by international standards, and the award of the degree is a mark of academic distinction. Prospective students should acquaint themselves with the relevant School's research activity and staff research expertise.

Entry criteria

Master’s by research degree or equivalent.

IELTS overall band of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0; or TOEFL 90 on the internet-based test with at least 20 in writing; or A minimum of two ratings of 5 and two ratings of 4 in the Victoria University English Proficiency Programme test; Pearson Test of English: score of 58 (with a ‘Communicative’ score of not less than 50).
