Course details

Summary

A unique opportunity to gain a postgraduate ECE leadership qualification in collaboration with colleagues from both sides of the Tasman.

Australian and New Zealand ECE leaders and aspiring leaders share and co-construct leadership knowledge from experience in the two similar but different ECE contexts.

Students engage together online as well as in face-to-face block courses as a cohort within the wider Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) programme.

The day after each block course, there are visits to ECE centres that provide added professional learning about best practice in both Australia and New Zealand.

Programme delivery
Four 30-credit papers are taught consecutively over a two-year period.

There are two compulsory block courses a year (one per course, 1.5 days each), with an additional orientation day for students new to the programme before the first block course in Wellington.

Once a year, students will need to cross the Tasman for a block course in the partner country in Week 1 of each year’s two semesters.

Students who graduate with the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) are eligible to staircase into a Level 9 master’s degree, with the four courses contributing to the first part of a master’s degree in both Australia and New Zealand.

Blended Learning

Our blended learning approach combines online learning with face-to-face block courses or noho marae. It is flexible and means that you can study from anywhere in New Zealand.

You will study online using the latest pedagogical approaches and techniques. You will engage in learning online with lecturers and other students as well as at the face-to-face block courses or noho marae in one of our 11 regional bases.

Our lecturers will support, guide and empower you throughout your programme. Other students will also play a supportive role in your success.

Entry criteria

Students must hold an NZQA-equivalent Level 7 teaching degree or diploma and be working in an ECE service or in an organisation that has an ECE-related focus. Students must be able to provide a copy of their academic transcript.
