You will focus on academic listening skills in lectures and tutorials, speaking in academic contexts, academic reading and writing skills, including research and referencing.

843.508 Academic reading and writing skills (15 credits)

843.509 Applied academic reading and writing (15 credits)

844.506 Academic discussions (15 credits)

844.507 Notetaking and presentations (15 credits)

This qualification provides entry into Degrees with a higher entry requirement and post graduate qualifications.

Entry criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria for admission into the programme:

Hold an NZCEL Level 4 Academic or equivalent


have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in writing, or equivalent; TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT): Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE); TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18); Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First, or B2 First for schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill; Pearson Test of English (Academic): PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42.


have a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) mid B2


achieve a score of 80 in the online diagnostic test
