Do you need to develop your English language skills?
This programme is for students that need English language skills to gain entry into degrees with higher entry criteria and post graduate diplomas.
It focuses on academic listening skills in lectures and tutorials, speaking in academic contexts, academic reading and writing skills, including research and referencing.
This programme focuses primarily on academic skills for further study.
Academic Discussions (L5)
To enable students to understand extended complex oral academic interactions; and to participate flexibly and effectively in extended spoken academic interactions on a wide range of topics
Academic Reading and Writing Skills (L5)
To enable students to understand and write extended complex academic texts on a wide range of topics
Note taking and Presentations (L5)
To enable students to understand extended, complex oral academic texts, and participate flexibly and effectively in extended spoken academic discourse on a wide range of topics
Applied Academic Reading and Writing (L5)
To enable students to understand extended complex written academic texts on a wide range of topics, and write well-structured, sophisticated extended academic texts
This qualification provides entry into Degrees with a higher entry requirement and post graduate qualifications.
Applicants must meet the following criteria for admission into the programme:
Hold an NZCEL Level 4 Academic or equivalent
have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in writing, or equivalent; TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT): Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE); TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18); Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First, or B2 First for schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill; Pearson Test of English (Academic): PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42.
have a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) mid B2
achieve a score of 80 in the online diagnostic test
