Summary

The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 4) (Academic) will provide students with the language skills needed to communicate independently and effectively in familiar and some less familiar situations with fluency and flexibility in everyday/social/community, workplace and/or academic English language contexts. This qualification is at a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) B2.

Course Information

Reading Level 4 (15 Credits) - Learn to read and understand extended or complex texts (fiction and non-fiction) with a large degree of independence on familiar topics.

Writing Level 4 (15 Credits) - Learn to write coherent texts appropriate to audience and purpose with few linguistic errors for a variety of purposes on familiar topics.

Listening Level 4 (15 Credits) - Learn to identify main ideas and some key supporting details expressed in extended speech in a range of familiar contexts.

Speaking Level 4 (15 Credits) - Learn to speak with fluency and with some degree of elaboration in a range of familiar topics.

Career & Study Outcomes

Successful graduates of UCOL's New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 4) (Academic) can progress to further study at undergraduate level.

Entry criteria

The English language requirement for entry into the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 4) (Academic) is the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 3) (Applied) or equivalent skills such as IELTS 5.5. NZCEL: Level 3 (Applied). A diagnostic test to identify your level may be used. IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form (i.e. combining scores from more than one test is not permissible).
