The Certificate in Applied Science gives you a taste of the many options in AUT’s School of Science.
The Certificate in Applied Science is designed to help you develop the academic and study skills for study at bachelor’s degree level. This certificate prepares you for the Bachelor of Science. Graduates are also prepared for employment in entry-level positions in science-related industries, including laboratory assistant or trainee roles.
What you study
In this certificate you gain a general understanding of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and academic writing skills. You need to complete 120 points, including at least 45 points at level 4 or above.

Completion of Year 12 or equivalent
At least 12 credits at level 2 in one subject from Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, Physics, Science; and
At least 12 credits at level 2 from one or more subjects from Classical Studies, Drama, English, Geography, Health Education, History, Art History, Media Studies, Social Studies, Te Reo M?ori, Te Reo Rangatira, Business Studies, Economics, Physical Education, Calculus, Mathematics or Statistics.
English Language Requirements:
IELTS (Academic) 5.5 overall with all bands 5.0 or higher; or equivalent; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with C/C+ grade; TOEFL iBT score of 70; GIE with C+ grade; CAE minimum overall score of 162; PTE minimum overall score of 42.
