Summary

If you already hold a recognised undergraduate degree, this Graduate Diploma is your perfect opportunity to gain an important business qualification.

The Graduate Diploma in Hotel Management is designed for aspiring individuals seeking to achieve their management potential and to stand out from the crowd. With its blend of practical learning, management theory and strategy, the programme builds on your existing skills and opens up new career possibilities. The 200-hour industrial internship is a key feature of this qualification and enables you to apply your newly-acquired knowledge to a real-life situation whilst also gaining valuable work experience that counts towards your degree! It also allows you to forge crucial contacts and to develop peer networks which will boost your employment prospects. Our experienced staff will help to place you at one of the many exciting internship locations we have available; opportunities exist both within New Zealand and throughout the world and range from small, family-run hotels to five-star, luxury resorts.

Career options for graduates

Upon successful completion of this Graduate Diploma, you will be well-suited for employment in a supervisory or management capacity within the accommodation, hospitality and tourism-related sectors, including hotels, resorts, restaurants, events and convention centres. You could even think about setting up your own small business.

You will be able to use your knowledge to evaluate operational matters and to implement processes across a range of specialist areas including operations management and marketing services.

In addition, we can help you to prepare for job interviews in New Zealand and also offer assistance when you are preparing a resume or curriculum vitae for New Zealand employers.

You will study

You must complete three hotel management papers at Level 6, two papers at Level 7 and a 45-credit industry project.

You will be expected to spend about 38 hours per week (or 300 hours per study block) on your course work. This includes both scheduled class time and self-directed study.
