Summary

If you already have a science-related qualification, this graduate diploma will allow you to fast track towards a future specialising in oenology (wine science). You have options to study full-time on campus (February only) or part-time by distance (February & July intake). Students studying by distance will be required to attend compulsory residential schools in Hawkes Bay each year. This programme is designed to build on your knowledge from prior degree study or from significant industry experience by focusing on scientific, technical and managerial aspects of grape growing and wine making.

This graduate-level programme builds on your knowledge of science from prior degree study or from significant industry experience by focusing on scientific, technical and managerial aspects of grape growing and winemaking. The subject areas you’ll study include:

  • General and Inorganic Chemistry
  • Winemaking Science and Practice
  • Microbiology or Engineering Physics
  • Sensory Science
  • Wine Microbiology or Winery Engineering
  • Wine Sensory Assessment
  • Wine Chemistry

This graduate diploma will give you a competitive advantage over other graduates and will help you advance within your chosen field of oenology (wine science). Once awarded the Graduate Diploma in Oenology you’ll be able to take on roles such as:

Entry criteria

Applicants must demonstrate successful completion of an undergraduate degree, preferably in science.

English Language Requirements

  • IELTS Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5
  • TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score of 60 (with a writing score of 18)
  • University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations: B2 First or B2 First for schools or C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42
  • City & Guilds IESOL: C1 Expert with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
  • NZCEL Level 4 Academic
