The Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics will upgrade your skills in statistics. It is also useful if you do not have a statistics background and would like to join the industry.

The Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics (GradDipApplStat) is a great stepping stone if you have a qualification in another area, but wish to learn more about statistics. Or you wish to progress to study a statistics degree.

This qualification will give you an understanding and skills in the application of statistical methods, rather than an understanding of the underlying theory.

Science of evidence

Statistics is the science of evidence. It allows us to quantify risk. It also allows us to make effective decisions even when we are uncertain about the world around us. Is this new treatment effective against breast cancer? What advertisements should my website display in order to increase my revenue? How can I better interpret that weak distress signal coming from a vessel far out at sea?

Entry criteria

To enter the Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics you will

  • have been awarded or qualified for a university degree, and
  • have passed approved 100 level courses in Mathematics and Statistics (one of 160.101, 160.102, 160.103, 160.105, 160.111, 160.112, 160.131, 160.132, 160.133, 228.171; and one of 161.111, 161.122, 161.101, 161.140, or their equivalents).

You will need to provide verified copies of all academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University.

Students from a country where English is not the first language, must obtain a minimum English Language competency level.

  • IELTS score of 6.0 (no band less than 5.5)
  • TOEFL iBT score of 80 overall (min 19 in Writing)
  • PTE Academic score of 50 Overall (min 42 in communicative skills)
  • Cambridge English score of 169 overall and all bands 162 or better
