Yoga teacher development at Wellpark College gives you time to study holistic approaches to contemporary yoga practices while maintaining traditional yoga values. The programme integrates new and old – history and philosophies with practices of asana, pranayama, relaxation, meditation, chanting and a range of thoughtful lifestyle modifications. These practices are aimed to expand your awareness of the body, to deeper experiences of self that can improve health, wellbeing and perception.

What will I learn?

During the first semester, you study anatomy and physiology, concentrate on philosophy and personal development, and learn about Ayurveda (prkruti and massage).

The second semester brings emphasis to teacher development with more practices and a range of community, one-on-one and College teaching specified hours of yoga classes.

In each Semester, you will have regular practice sessions as well as sessions in critical thinking in theory and philosophy.

Yoga taught at Wellpark College creates a sense of connection and balance between the physical; incorporating awareness of physiology, emotional, mental, social and spiritual aspects that are then available to working on self and others.

As part of your yoga teacher development, you practice a deep integration of yoga:

Entry criteria

To be accepted on to the Wellpark College Diploma in Yoga you must meet the following entry criteria.

  • Have had more than 6 months prior regular Yoga practice.
  • Be 18 years of age prior to commencing your programme.
  • Have passed a qualification equivalent to NCEA Level 2. It is an advantage if you have a pass in biology and chemistry.
  • Have no communicable diseases, physical or psychological impairments which may adversely affect your ability to undertake a programme of study or work with people in a clinical setting.
  • Be able to communicate competently in English. International students or residents whose first language is neither English nor Maori shall provide IELTS results with a minimum band score of 5.5 overall and not less than 5 in each band or evidence of a comparable level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
