The Diploma in Business Computing is an industry-focused qualification that aims to provide graduates with advanced computing skills with specialisation in computer support, based on a practical grounding in business and management practice.

  • The first year provides a thorough grounding in business, organisation and management, computing, and communication practice.
  • The second year teaches advanced computing skills with specialisation in IT support, and develops in students practical and theoretical skills in computing to enable them to progress to further studies in a similar field or to enter employment directly.

The Diploma in Business Computing is ideal for a student who wants to work in NZ. IT skills are highly in demand in New Zealand and the 12-week work placement in the course gives students valuable work experience which helps in the application for a job.

Graduate Outcomes

Graduates of the Diploma in Business Computing (Level 7) are able to demonstrate:

  • General business and advanced computer skills;
  • Practical and theoretical skills for progression to further studies in a computing field.

Employment Outcomes

The Diploma in Business Computing provides graduates with an opportunity to seek employment in a skilled environment, being qualified at Skill Level 2 in the ANZSCO categories. Typical jobs include Contract Administrator, Hardware Technician, ICT Customer Support Officer, ICT Support Technician, Office Manager, Programme or Project Administrator, Web Administrator.

Entry criteria

Applicants must have High School Graduation.

International students for whom English is not a first language must also either:

  • meet the English language proficiency outcomes for Diploma level 6 as set out in Appendix 2 of the Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2013. Category 1 institutions as defined in these rules may avail themselves of the alternative permitted under rule 18.4 of these rules; or
  • complete two years study at a New Zealand secondary school and achieve either NCEA Level 3 or New Zealand University Entrance or both.

Students must meet IELTS 6.0, with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent in the ICL Proficiency Test, or other equivalent recognized by NZQA.
