Become an engineering technician. Put engineering theory into practice and perform technical operations to professional standards. Specialise in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering. The diploma is accredited nationally and internationally.

You’ll gain the skills and attributes required by Engineering New Zealand, which are bench marked internationally and accredited to the Dublin Accord.

Become an engineering technician in the fields of civil, electrical or mechanical engineering.

Entry criteria

Under 20 years:

  • 10 literacy credits at NCEA Level 1, or higher, 48 credits at NCEA Level 2 in four subjects - including at least 12 credits in maths (preferably credits in algebra, calculus or trigonometry), or successful completion of the NZ Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Engineering), or equivalent qualification/relevant trades training and experience.

If students cannot meet the maths criteria we will run level 2 and level 3 math to allow students to staircase into the Level 4 New Zealand Diploma in Engineering. This is subject to student numbers.

20+ years:

If you’re 20 years or over, you may qualify for special admission on this programme. Contact Wellington Institute of Technology if you don’t meet the entry criteria as provided on the Under 20 information.

IELTS score of 6.0 overall with no sub score less than 5.5; TOEFL Internet-Based Test (iBT) score of 60 (with a writing score of 20); Cambridge English Test - FCE with a pass at Grade B or CAE with a score of 52; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PToE (Academic) score of 50; New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) - Level 4 with the Academic endorsement.
