Summary

If you're passionate about the environment, a Bachelor of Applied Science in Communication and Environment will help you make a difference. This double major will give you the strategic understanding and communication skills needed to analyse and report on environmental issues in both the private and public sectors.

What you will learn

When you achieve this qualification you will be able to:

  • analyse and use information logically
  • write concisely and clearly
  • communicate effectively at personal, group and organisational levels
  • analyse, address and offer practical solutions to complex communication issues
  • understand organisational dynamics
  • recognise and analyse the causes of environmental problems facing New Zealand and the global community
  • apply environmental principles and legislation to practical situations involving the protection and use of natural resources
  • use policy and management approaches to resolve environmental problems
  • identify and implement effective actions to achieve sustainable environmental outcomes.

Career opportunities

This qualification will prepare you for roles in resource management, policy analysis, planning, research management, corporate communication, consultancy, environmental education, auditing and advocacy.

Study pathways

We offer a range of certificates and diplomas in communication and psychology that you may be able to achieve on your way towards a Bachelor of Applied Science.

You can study this programme part-time if you’re an international student living in New Zealand or overseas. If you’re living in New Zealand you will need to be in paid employment with a valid work permit.

Entry criteria

You must be at least 17 years of age at the start of the programme and have one of the following:

  • New Zealand University Entrance
  • Passes in New Zealand certificate/diploma qualifications/courses considered appropriate by the programme leader
  • An overseas qualification assessed to be equivalent to either of the above by the programme leader.

IELTS test – a score of 6 (Academic) with no band score lower than 5.5

Cambridge English Qualifications - B2 First, or B2 First for Schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill.
