Split is a beautifully minimalist puzzle game where players must divide themselves to explore, solve and create.
What are we up to?
We are absolutely thrilled to be flying to San Francisco to spend the week attending talks at the Game Developers Conference 2016 (GDC) on everything from the latest programming technologies to art direction and design, virtual reality, advocacy, artificial intelligence and so much more. We’ll also be networking with others within the global game developers community, and meeting others who are just as passionate about games as we are!
Why is going to GDC important?
Going to GDC is incredibly important to us as it gives us an opportunity to be a part of the global game development community. It opens the global door and gives us access to opportunities that we wouldn’t otherwise get in New Zealand. We can go to talks by some of the industries leading names, network with people we wouldn’t otherwise be able to meet and, best of all, represent New Zealand as an active part of the international game developers community. We can learn about new skills and technologies, and share our learning with our fellows when we get back home. It may even give us future opportunities to work overseas in other countries.
What sort of support are we receiving?
Our team has had the opportunity to be part of the Media Design School’s Studios accelerator programme, which has helped to support us while we work on Split. We were also both fortunate enough to both be recipients of the 2015 New Zealand Game Development Association (NZGDA)scholarships, which works to support Kiwi game developers in attending GDC and becoming part of the international game developers community.
What are we looking forward to most at GDC?
We are so looking forward to spending the week soaking up as much knowledge as we possibly can before taking it back to New Zealand. We are also excited about meeting and getting to know people in other parts of the game developers industry, and catching up with those who we haven’t seen in awhile. It’s also going to be a nice chance to explore a new city!
