Marion Rayward Memorial Scholarship in Music

Purpose of award

To provide opportunity and encouragement for music teachers or music teachers in training to engage in study, research or practical work in music or other related spheres including music therapy, dance and movement.

Selection criteria

  • Grants have been awarded to individuals proposing personal study which may lead to qualification or enhanced professional practise.
  • Grants have also been awarded to organisations for the provision of musical opportunities which will develop music in the community and for assistance with publications or music events.
  • These scholarships are open to any level of undergraduate or graduate study for music teachers or music teachers in training.
  • Study may occur at the New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington or at other institutions nationally.
  • In individual circumstances, applications from self employed music teachers may be considered.

Principal Scholarship - From 2005 a new award valued at $10,000 will be offered for research leading to a Master's degree or a PhD. The award is available for research in a field of music education supervised at any New Zealand University. One Principal Scholarship may be awarded annually. If this scholarship is awarded this may limit the number of smaller grants available.

Applications for scholarships should normally be made to the Victoria University Scholarships Office by 1 October but the advisory committee may consider proposals and make awards at any time.
