Upper Hutt College is surrounded by nature on the edge of the capital. Regular bus and train services give you easy access to the Wellington city centre which is just 20 minutes drive away by car. Upper Hutt has a beautiful setting, nestled between the crystal clear waters of the Hutt River and a range of tree covered hills.
There are many opportunities for recreational, sporting and cultural activities. There is easy access to the harbour and to the beaches of the Wellington area. Upper Hutt College offers you the best of both worlds. You can enjoy the compact, cosmopolitan capital city of Wellington with its cafes, shopping, art galleries and museums and at the same time some truly beautiful river and forest scenery.
There are many sporting and cultural activities. We have very strong fencing and dragon boating teams. There are several golf clubs (including the Royal Wellington Golf Club, just a short walk from school) nearby and it is possible to go horse riding in the local area.
Drama, Media Studies, Dance, Art, Photography and Hospitality classes are offered as well as the traditional academic subjects. Outdoor Education is also a very popular option. The school has very modern facilities after a $20 million building programme was completed at the end of 2014.
