Burnside High School

Secondary (Years 9-13, approx age 13-17)

Burnside High School is recognised as the best school in New Zealand for Performance Music (with a nationally ranked orchestra, choral and chamber groups) and we have a Visual Arts Department that ranks in the top three nationally. The School has caring, professional teachers and excellent facilities. International students can access specialist courses in rugby, outdoor pursuits, computing and hotel management, as well as the performing arts (dance, drama). There are over 40 sports available and with the Southern Alps only an hour away students can ski in the winter and surf at local beaches in the summer. A must-see is New Zealand’s highest peak, Aoraki Mount Cook. Go hiking in Arthur’s Pass National Park or just wander around the picturesque bays and villages of Banks Peninsula. And then there’s New Zealand's second-largest city, Christchurch known as 'The Garden City'.

Christchurch is a beautiful city where you can cycle alongside the river, stay in good hotels and indulge in fine sophisticated dining, and a city where, just 15 minutes from the centre, you can scramble up mountain bike tracks or ride a wave at a surf beach.
