A Fresh Approach to Life

For Vietnamese student Long Ho, the relaxed pace of life in New Zealand has been one of the best things about studying here.

“When I was at high school in Viet Nam, I studied 12 subjects. We often had extra classes, so I’d be studying from the early morning till the end of the day,” he says.

“One of the reasons I wanted to come to New Zealand was because of the speed of life here. I wanted more time to myself.”

After leaving school in Viet Nam, Long spent a year studying for a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam in Hanoi.

In March 2017 Long started studying at Victoria University of Wellington, which has a twinning relationship with the academy. He will spend two years studying in New Zealand.

Long says he’s especially enjoying learning from his helpful, friendly professors, and studying in Victoria’s spacious library, which is open till midnight.

He has lots of free time, which he spends exploring Wellington, listening to music, socialising and playing football with other students on the twinning programme.

“It’s good having free time on the weekends to look around Wellington, enjoy the scenery and see my friends,” says Long.

Long’s also looking forward to exploring the rest of New Zealand, and has plans to visit Auckland and Queenstown in November.
