Hillcrest High School is a state co-educational school for Years 9-13 with a roll of approximately 1750 students, including 50 International Students.
We are located in the southeast sector of Hamilton, near Waikato University. The school provides quality education with national recognition for student's success- in their academic, cultural and sporting life. There are specialist facilities for art, music, physical education (two gymnasiums), computing, graphics, workshop technologies and food and nutrition facilities. We have enthusiastic, highly experienced music and drama departments.
A large, modern International Centre offers award winning Pastoral support and is home to our ELL Department. English language tuition is provided at all levels and an International Homework Centre is held after school on Tuesdays. As well as ELL trained teachers, we have ELL trained support staff who work with small groups of students in mainstream classes or in small tutorials.A foundation programme is available for junior students. In the senior school, ELL classes focus on academic English and NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3. We take great pride in the academic achievement of our English Language learners. Students are encouraged to enter into all school activities and to take leadership roles.
International Students participate in our annual camp, the Autumn Gala and the International Concert. There are many opportunities to play sport, join clubs and join in the wider school community with an emphasis on our extensive curricular and extra-curricular opportunities. Year 10 students can apply to join the five week experience on Great Barrier Island (there is an extra cost for this). We have highly effective pastoral care and offer many opportunities for our ELL and International students to connect with other students in the wider school community.
