Tauranga - Where Business Meets Beach

Tauranga offers international students the experiences of a bustling city alongside the laid-back lifestyle of a small Kiwi town.

Famous for its prime location on New Zealand’s glistening northeastern coast, Tauranga was previously known as one of New Zealand’s favourite holiday destinations. However, its competitive advantages for business has seen it transition over recent years into New Zealand’s fifth largest and fastest growing city.

Attracted to the climate and way of life, immigrants, returned expats and Aucklanders are all moving to Tauranga in droves, bringing with them big city opportunities, culture and ideas.

A Quality Education

Tauranga has world-class schools from primary right through to public and private tertiary institutions, with international departments passionate about creating welcoming communities in schools and at home.

International students love how accessible the city is, are stunned by the beautiful weather and appreciate the friendly locals and increasingly multicultural environment.

With many specialties from hospitality to healthcare, tourism to trades, Tauranga’s Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology prides itself on offering its students hands-on industry experience.

With the opening of Tauranga’s Waikato University campus in 2019, it is now a much-sought after location for university students as well, who can study at a world-class institution and prepare for the future.

Tauranga’s Growing Business Sector

Work-life balance is more than just a myth in Tauranga which is why many businesses have thriving offices here.

As the region’s hub and only a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Auckland, Tauranga beckons businesspeople, entrepreneurs and innovators who are drawn to a city making huge economic strides while allowing for plenty of outdoor adventure.

A ten-minute drive across Tauranga’s Harbour Bridge brings you to Mount Maunganui, a coveted holiday spot which buzzes year-round with surfers, swimmers and joggers. For the fourth year in a row, Trip Advisor’s 2019 Traveller’s Choice Awards has rated Mount Maunganui’s Main Beach the best in New Zealand (and fourth best in the South Pacific!)

A hike up Mauao (the Maori name for the Mount) is well worth the effort, the panoramic views from the summit showing off the best the region has to offer.

There’s plenty for land lovers to enjoy as well, from trekking up Papamoa Hills to ambling along the Strand in downtown Tauranga, shopping at the local farmers market or taking part in one of the city’s many festivals, like the historic Jazz Fest or the famous Bay of Plenty Garden & Arts Festival.

If you want to take advantage of New Zealand’s beaches, enjoy the liveliness of a growing city and gain a first-class education, Tauranga welcomes you warmly.
