Do you want to be surrounded by the kindest, most down to earth people?
Before I came to New Zealand, I had heard the people were nice, but I could never have imagined the way their way of life would impact me. Kiwis take kindness to the next level and have immense pride for their country. I cannot count the number of times people have gone out of their way to ensure that I had an amazing time here. From loaning you their cars, to inviting you into their homes, feeding you, and teaching you about their culture, they never stop giving. New Zealand also seems to attract a certain type of person, so your fellow international students are sure to become some of your closest friends as you set out to explore the country together.
Do you want to discover more about yourself and the world around you?
I’ve learned a lot about myself since I came to New Zealand. I’ve formed new conclusions on issues that I thought were set in stone. It’s a personal journey which develops slowly over time, often unrecognisable. I will not go home the same person, due to the unique culture of New Zealand which has provided me with many opportunities to explore and discover. Studying abroad allows you to grow by taking you out of your comfort zone; New Zealand offers experiences to suit everyone. Don’t expect to go home with all the answers though, I have some new things to figure out now!
Do you want a unique, quality education?
Coming from the United States, the New Zealand education system were contrasting. In particular, I had fewer assignments and a larger emphasis on exam scores. However, there are great aspects of university in New Zealand that I will miss when I return home. The relationship with professors is much more relaxed, making it easier to communicate with them and ask questions during class. Another difference is having multiple professors teach a single course. This helps make sure that you are getting information from the most qualified and informed Professor possible. They are experts in the field and have a true knowledge of the material they are teaching you, making it more engaging to learn. As a science major, the quality and relevance of the laboratory sessions is impressive. I have learned new techniques, used state of the art technology, and had the chance to work with other students that will eventually be colleagues in my field.
